The Hungry Artist - VIDEO meets DINNER



Wednesdays, beginning February 15th 6-8PM

Artist Aaron Rosenblum, with support from Nazzah Swenson and Lee Wai Chang, will host a series of evenings exploring some more unusual aspects of video production. We'll begin by exploring the art of the cooking show, learning some quick fire cooking while video taping a show for YouTube. Each session will be uploaded to YouTube that evening. Activities will evolve and change based on the interests of attending participants!

This workshop is intended for youth 12-19.

Red Lake Retrospect at Parkway Theater


In Progress is happy to announce that Red Lake's Project Preserve Program will be featured as part of Augsburg's College Where Condor Meets Eagle: Indigenous Bolivian and Native American Film Festival.

The screening will take place at the Parkway Theater on Sunday March 18th and will feature Life In The Seventh Prophecy, Indian Humor 3 and Red Lake - Our Sacred Heart.

Life In The Seventh Prophecy to Screen at Intermedia Arts


We are excited to say that Life In The Seventh Prophecy will be screened at Intermedia Arts as part of a New Indigenous Cinema Screening event.

The show will take place February 23-25, 2012

And will feature a series of film shorts by contemporary Indigenous filmmakers.

Life in the Seventh Prophecy is a docu-drama that looks at the seven sacred prophecies of the Anishinaabe and how young people are struggling with choices regarding their lives. This video has recently traveled the world and we are so proud to have it circle back to Minnesota for this special screening. We will keep you posted as we hear more - specifically regarding the time of the showing.

Studio Activities Begin February 13th!


Beginning the week of February 13th In Progress will open its doors to the public to offer a series of free workshop and mentorship sessions for the public. Activities range from open labs, where youth and their families can come in to work independently on creating digital stories to professional development sessions centered on small business development in the field of digital media.

OPEN STUDIO Wedensdays – Fridays 4-6PM / Saturdays 12-4PM
In Progress offers both access to digital artmaking tools (photo and video cameras) as well as multimedia computers and software. Volunteers are available to tour current exhibits, provide one to one instruction and provide feedback about projects you are working on.


MENTORSHIPS 6-8PM

MONDAYS Professional Development
Artists Kristine Sorensen & Nazzah Swenson will host a series of professional development sessions for artists looking to hone their skills as practicing media artists. Sessions will vary depending on those attending.

THURSDAYS The One Hour Photo
Artist Kao Na Vang will lead a weekly portraiture session where developing artists can see their images and photographic techniques change weekly. Images will be posted weekly and the public will be able to see each artist’s work develop as their expertise in the field grows.

FRIDAYS Hip Hop In The Lounge
Artist Yeeleng Vue will lead a series of music creation sessions in the music studio. Learn to write songs, perform and produce music with one of our most seasoned professionals.


MOVIE NIGHTS 1st Saturday of each Month 7-9PM
Join In Progress for a series of movie nights. Watch challenging, funny, scary movies – and join us in a discussion of what it means to tell stories. Look for a listing of video premieres on our website or visit us at 213 Front Avenue and we will fill you in!

Digital Me in Two Saint Paul Schools


We are excited to say that an entire team of artists have just returned to the Community School of Excellence and Farnsworth Aerospace School to provide a series of photography and video workshops as part of an extensive after-school program designed to introduce youth to the art of digital storytelling.

This winter Kao Na "Raynie" Vang and Pajar Vang will be teaching elementary and middle school youth at CSE while artists Aaron Rosenblum and LeeWai Chang are teaching at Farnsworth.

This program has been made possible through the generous contributions from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, COMPAS, and the Travelers Foundation.

Ip Artist David Sam Goes to Santa Fe


We want to congratulate IP artist David Sam who made his way to Santa Fe New Mexico in search of his college education. David is now officially a COLLEGE student at the Institute of American Indian Arts & Crafts. David everyone at In Progress is so very proud of you for taking the leap. Thanks also to Rachel Sam - David's big sister, protector, supporter and more. Thanks to his mom, family members, and friends who kept the faith in this talented young man and made it possible for him to pursue his dreams!

Ip Videos to Be Screened in Finland


In Progress is so very honored to be screening the following videos at the Skabmagovat Film Festival Saturday January 28th in Inari Finland.

This festival embraces videos produced from throughout the world produced by Indigenous filmmakers. The videos will be screened in an outdoor theater below the northern lights in sub zero weather to a global audience.

Congratulations to the talented artists that produced this work. Kristine Sorensen from In Progress will be in attendance and will send back pictures and information about the screening.
